Description

The Road and Bridge Department is part of the Public Works Division and is responsible for maintaining County roads, bridges, culverts, and traffic signs. The Department is made up of Equipment Operators and Foremen who report directly to the Road and Bridge Manager. The Road and Bridge department provides snow removal on County roads and maintains roadway infrastructure that will ensure reliable access to County facilities, services along with recreational and natural resource areas to enhance the quality of life of Archuleta County residents, and to promote the economic development of the area.

Core Services

  • Develop Road and Bridge Maintenance policy and activities 
  • Implements road reconstruction and repair 
  • Snow removal services to keep roads accessible during winter months 
  • Provides equipment and operators to support emergency response operations (i.e. floods, wildfires, etc.) 
  • Follows industry standards to provide safe working conditions for its employees and safe roads for its users 
  • Develop resources needed to maintain safe roadways for all 
  • Evaluate and implement new technology that is in the best interest of the County 
  • Comply with all Federal, State, and Local regulations and requirements to ensure the safety of employees, citizens and the environment 
  • Manage Road Capital Improvement Projects 
  • Support Road and Bridge operations and maintenance 
  • Develop policy for Public Works activities 
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Road and Bridge division 
  • Build and assist county development projects
