Mission
Our mission is to coordinate, respond, recover, mitigate, and plan for large emergencies and incidents within Archuleta County, including southern and remote areas of Hinsdale and Mineral Counties. We provide for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare, and property of Archuleta County residents.
Description
The Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management reports to the Undersheriff, and is responsible for coordination of the county’s emergency management function. Working out of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC), Emergency Managers serve all of Archuleta County in addition to providing assistance to Hinsdale and Mineral Counties with emergency management and coordination in the southern and remote areas of their counties. The division is also responsible for the coordination of search and rescue throughout the Sheriff’s response area and is responsible for wildland fire response in unincorporated areas of the response area.

- Coordinate and support the development of division’s 60 volunteers
- Draft and implement emergency management policies; work with other departments to ensure consistent application of policies
- Facilitate interagency coordination between the County, local agencies, and state agencies in the areas of emergency management and emergency response
- Prepare and recommend the division’s budget to the Undersheriff and justify staffing, operating expenses, capital expenditures, and revenue sources for the division
