Description

The Archuleta County Fleet Department is responsible for the maintenance of all vehicles and heavy equipment owned and used by Archuleta County. Fleet maintains a variety of small gasoline engines, automobiles, and heavy equipment. Fleet is also responsible for tracking all maintenance, inventory, and labor. The Fleet Department is comprised of a Fleet Manager, 3 Mechanics, and a Service Writer. Archuleta County Fleet Department works along the side of all entities affiliated with the county to ensure vehicles and equipment is safe and operable.  

2024 Accomplishments

  • Continued to provide exceptional service throughout Archuleta County departments
  • Kept up with work load while operating short staffed for over six months
  • Assisted with other departments needs and challenges
  • Created and billed more work orders than in the previous year
  • Replaced engine and transmission in old plow truck extending its useful life to Archuleta County
  • Replaced shop lighting to LED, making us eligible for incentives through LPEA
  • Kept an accurate inventory throughout the year
  • Addressed and repaired all wrecked units
  • Received more training on diagnostics and other mechanical components

Fleet maintains Archuleta County vehicles to a state of safe and operable condition. 

Aspects of the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance that require fleet to keep vehicles in a safe operating condition: 

  • Oil Services
  • Tire Rotation
  • Brakes
  • Equipment teeth and edge replacement
  • Lighting
  • Safety aspects such as beacons or seatbelts
  • Fabrication, maintenance, and repairs to all plows, wings, and mounted equipment
  • Replacement of worn steering and suspension parts
  • Vehicle/Equipment replacement

2026 Goals

  • Remain fully staffed  
  • Keep working on accuracy of our billing process 
  • Increase fleet shop rate  
  • Continue to work on the representation of Archuleta County  
  • Raise inventory for high use items (due to national shortages) 
  • Replace outdated small fleet vehicles 
  • Work on simplifying vehicle scheduling
