To provide safe, effective and efficient public transportation for the residents of and visitors to Archuleta County.
2023 Accomplishments
- Awarded $122,084 FTA 5311 grant for a new vehicle replacement of Unit #244.
- Awarded $136,241 FTA 5311 grant for 2024 Transportation Administration and Operations.
- Awarded $261,000 Congressionally Directed Spending for an electric vehicle and charging infrastructure.
- Awarded $114,800 for 2024 FASTER/FTA grant for design of Aspen Springs Park-n-Ride.
- New weekly services to Arboles on Mondays and Durango on Thursdays.
- Awarded $17,790 2023 Ozone Season Transit Grant to operate fare free for June, July, and August. During this period the MET saw a 65% increase in ridership over 2022.
2023 Challenges
- The MET is primarily staffed by part-time drivers making increased requests for additional services like holidays, expanded hours, special events, and additional routes challenging.
- The MET has seen a 60% increase each of the past two years in both para and dial-a-ride requests.
Core Services
Providing safe, reliable, affordable, effective and efficient Fixed Route public transportation to residents of and visitors to Archuleta County in and around the Pagosa Springs area. Providing Paratransit service in keeping with CDOT and FTA rules and regulations. Providing transportation for the senior population through San Juan Basin Area Agency on Aging services.
2024 Goals
- Begin construction on the new multi-modal transportation facility at Harman Park
- Pursue Clean Transit Enterprise (CTE) funding to bridge gap in funding new electric vehicle replacement of the spare fleet bus #249 (2004) with a newer electric model.
- Installation of Bus Shelters and Way-finding Kiosks.
- Pursue Expansion FTA 5311 funding for additional transportation services.
- Explore opportunities for daily service to Arboles.
- Continue public awareness outreach for available transportation services, increase ridership, expand to unserved and underserved areas of the county.
- Pursue FTA funding for a ZEV transition plan.
